Lily Pool

Voted most favoured feature for restoration by the people of Whitby during the consultation process.

The original shelter and Lily Pond were commissioned by the widow and daughters of Captain Thomas Kirby in his memory. The Lily Pond is thought to be designed by landscape gardeners Kent and Brydon of Darlington. The shelter fell into disrepair and was demolished in 1996.

The aim of the new structure is to depict the finesse and grandeur of the park. It has open rear and side panels to ensure views through the shelter and for security. The fountain, rockeries and seating have been reinstated.
